Starting over – substance pending…

If there is something daunting about a blank page then that fear can be multiplied ten fold when the blank page is the first in the book.

This is not the first time I’ve written online. It’s not the first blog I’ve started. It is, however, the first blog I’ve started that has a focus; a goal which is to be worked toward. Nothing so crass as monetisation (although that may come in time) but rather the desire to build something that is valuable to others as a resource, something that will become a talking point and a forum for discussion of ideas.

My previous online home has stood mostly derelict for some time now – the last serious post was months ago and only a trickle of Twitter updates have broken the sad silence of a blog that lost its way. This was the first barrier to be overcome. I knew I wanted to re-launch myself but couldn’t bring myself to do it at a location that had so many good memories. That site still stands and may will benefit from this new project – a resurgence in energy benefits all sites of production.

This site is currently very empty indeed but I don’t plan for it to remain that way for very long. I have planned several series of posts on topics including monitoring software, ColdFusion development and application security. These will be starting as of next week (i.e. on Monday) and it is my intention that they follow a regular(ish) release schedule.

I’m hoping that I will be able to build something of a reader base within the technical community, not for the purposes of appeasing any requirement my ego may have but rather with the aim of becoming one of those sites that are found via Google or emailed link and solve someone’s problem, or inspire a post in rebuttal or expansion of the ideas I put forward.

In short I’m hoping that this will become a proper blog – but time will tell how successful I am in this endeavour!
